Better Men Better World Corp (BMBW, we, us, or our) uses personal information to operate this website and administer the Better Men Better World scholarship at Florida International University, sponsored by TKE Sigma-Alpha at FIU and the South Florida TKE Alumni Association. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, and the choices available to applicants.
Information we collect
A scholarship application may include:
- Contact information, including your name, personal email address, and phone number.
- Your FIU or other student email address.
- Academic information, including incoming-freshman status, GPA, intended major, expected graduation date, and FIU enrollment.
- If requested later, a transcript, FIU enrollment verification, or related information needed to confirm post-add/drop credit hours.
- Leadership, service, work, family, campus, or community experience.
- Essays, personal statements, and descriptions of leadership or community service.
- The email addresses of one academic reference and one community, work, or leadership reference.
- Certifications, acknowledgements, and consents submitted with the application.
A transcript is not requested with the initial application. If BMBW needs an academic record, we will explain what is required, why it is needed, the deadline, and how to submit it securely. Do not email or upload a transcript unless BMBW requests it and provides instructions.
Our hosting and security providers may also process basic request, device, and server-log information needed to deliver and protect the site.
While you preview or complete the guided form, the site stores an unfinished draft in this browser tab's session storage for up to two hours. The draft is not sent to BMBW unless you submit it. You can clear it from the form at any time; it is also designed to expire or clear when the browser session ends.
How we use information
We use application information to:
- Receive, organize, and evaluate scholarship applications.
- Confirm incoming-freshman eligibility, application completeness, and enrollment in at least 9FIU credit hours after the applicable add/drop period.
- Communicate with applicants about their submission or award.
- Contact the references identified by an applicant.
- Protect the application process and prevent misuse.
- Meet reasonable recordkeeping and legal obligations.
Scholarship application information is not used to require or evaluate fraternity membership, rush participation, attendance at recruitment events, or interest in joining a fraternity. Those are not scholarship selection factors.
References and consent to contact
Before providing a reference's email address, you should tell that person that BMBW may contact them about your application and obtain their permission to share the address. By submitting a reference email, you represent that you have permission to provide it and authorize BMBW to contact that reference for scholarship-review purposes.
Who may receive information
Access is limited to scholarship reviewers who need the information to administer or evaluate applications and to service providers that help us host the site, store submissions, send communications, or secure the application process. Those providers may use the information only to provide services to BMBW, subject to their applicable agreements and legal obligations.
Sponsorship alone does not give either sponsor access to application information. Any sponsor representative who serves as an authorized scholarship reviewer is subject to the same limited-access and scholarship-only use described in this policy.
Any transcript or enrollment record is limited to authorized reviewers and service providers who need it for eligibility verification. It is not used for fraternity recruitment or shared merely because an organization sponsors the scholarship.
We do not sell or rent applicant personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect applicants, BMBW, or the integrity of the scholarship process.
Retention
We retain application information only as long as needed to administer the relevant scholarship cycle and satisfy legitimate administrative, accounting, dispute-resolution, or legal requirements. The final retention schedule—including the schedule for any requested academic record—will be published before applications open.
Unsubmitted per-tab drafts expire after two hours and remain on your device. BMBW cannot retrieve an unsubmitted browser draft.
You may request access, correction, or deletion using the dedicated privacy contact that will be published before applications open. We may need to verify your identity, and we may retain information when required by law or needed to complete the scholarship process.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect application information. No website, transmission method, or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If an academic record is requested, follow the secure instructions in that request. The future privacy mailbox is for privacy questions and rights requests, not for sending transcripts.
Applicant choices and rights
Applicants may ask what information BMBW holds about them, request a correction, request deletion where appropriate, or withdraw a non-required consent. Withdrawing or deleting information needed to evaluate an application may prevent BMBW from completing that review. Additional rights may apply depending on where you live.
Policy updates and contact
We may update this policy as the scholarship program or its service providers change. The date above shows the latest revision. Questions or privacy requests may be sent to the dedicated privacy contact once it is provisioned and published. Applications will remain closed until that contact is operational.
