Who the program is for
Male incoming freshmen and active TKE members in good standing who meet the final academic and application requirements. Before payment, each recipient must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours after add/drop.

Draft selection approach
Academic readiness, leadership, service, responsibilities, the statement, and references would be reviewed together. Fraternity interest would not be considered.
Timeline and decisions
Application, review, decision, and disbursement dates will be published before submissions are enabled.

Better Men Better World began with a simple conviction: talent should have a clearer path to opportunity.

Better Men Better World was founded by alumni of Tau Kappa Epsilon’s Sigma-Alpha Chapter at Florida International University. They came together around a shared goal: help students begin college with practical support and access to people who can help them navigate what comes next.

Drawing on a tradition of scholarship, leadership, character, and service, the founders saw that many incoming students bring ambition and ability to FIU but may not yet have the same financial cushion, professional network, or firsthand guidance as their peers.

The work begins with scholarships for incoming freshmen and for TKE brothers already on campus. The award goes to male students on one of two tracks: incoming freshmen entering a four-year college or university in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, or West Florida, and active Tau Kappa Epsilon members in good standing enrolled at those same institutions. TKE membership, interest in joining a fraternity, and participation in rush or recruitment activities are not required and do not affect selection.

BMBW’s long-term vision extends beyond a financial award: thoughtfully building mentorship connections that can offer career perspective, leadership guidance, and real-world insight. We believe students who receive support today can strengthen their communities tomorrow.

Two ways to qualify—meeting either one is enough. Both tracks are open at four-year colleges and universities across Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and West Florida, with FIU as the home campus. What matters after that is how you learn, contribute, and take responsibility.

Who can apply?

There are two tracks, and meeting either one is enough. You qualify as an incoming freshman entering a four-year college or university as a first-time-in-college student, or as an active member in good standing of Tau Kappa Epsilon. Both tracks require enrollment at a four-year institution in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, or West Florida. FIU is the program's home campus and where outreach is concentrated, but it is not the only eligible school. The 3.0 GPA shown in this preview remains a draft requirement pending final approval.

Why was Better Men Better World created?

Better Men Better World was founded by alumni of Tau Kappa Epsilon’s Sigma-Alpha Chapter at FIU to expand access to scholarship support and, over time, responsible mentorship for students beginning their college journey.

Do I need to be a TKE member or participate in rush?

No. TKE membership is one of two ways to qualify, not a requirement — incoming freshmen apply on their own track with no fraternity connection of any kind. No applicant is asked to rush, join, or express interest in joining, and none of that is a selection factor. Active TKE members apply on the second track because the foundation was created by TKE alumni to support brothers already enrolled.

Is the scholarship only for men?

Yes. The award is designated for male students, and applicants confirm this when they apply. Eligibility follows Tau Kappa Epsilon’s membership, which is why the second track reaches active TKE members rather than applying a separate test.

Does BMBW currently match scholarship recipients with mentors?

Mentorship is part of BMBW’s developing mission, but the current scholarship does not promise a mentor match. Program details will be published only after mentor roles, screening, participant consent, privacy safeguards, and operating capacity are finalized.

Who operates and sponsors the scholarship?

Better Men Better World Corp, an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) private foundation, operates the program. TKE Sigma-Alpha at FIU and the South Florida TKE Alumni Association are listed as sponsors. Sponsorship does not affect eligibility or selection.

How much is awarded?

The program is structured as one $750 award and one $250 award, for $1,000 in total scholarship support.

Can I apply before registering for classes?

Yes. You may apply before course registration on either track. Any award remains conditional until BMBW verifies the recipient is enrolled in at least 9 credit hours after the applicable add/drop period.

Will I need to submit a transcript?

A transcript is not part of the initial application preview. BMBW may later request a transcript, enrollment verification, or confirmation of TKE good standing to confirm eligibility. Do not email or upload an academic record unless BMBW requests it and provides secure submission instructions.

When can I apply and when are decisions made?

Application, review, decision, and disbursement dates have not been approved for the next cycle. You may preview the application now, but the site will not accept a submission until those dates and the program procedures are published.

What does the selection team review?

Draft selection factors include academic readiness, leadership potential, service, meaningful responsibilities, the personal statement, and references.

Will my references be contacted automatically?

No. When submissions open, reference contact details will be collected only after you attest that you have permission to share them. Authorized reviewers may contact references during scholarship review.
